Not for emergencies or urgent veterinary decisions

DogAllergyTest.ca, its forms, email addresses, telephone support and customer-service channels are not veterinary emergency services. If your dog has difficulty breathing, facial swelling, collapse, repeated vomiting, severe weakness, suspected poisoning, a rapidly worsening reaction or another urgent condition, contact a veterinarian or emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Do not wait for a website report or support reply.

info About the service

Scope and intended use

These provisions explain what this veterinary allergy testing disclaimer covers and what DogAllergyTest.ca content, products and reports are intended to do.

01

Scope and definitions

This disclaimer applies to:

  • DogAllergyTest.ca and its website content;
  • dog allergy tests and product descriptions;
  • full allergen panels and single allergen panels;
  • intolerance and sensitivity testing;
  • at-home sample kits and collection materials;
  • food- and environmental-trigger reports;
  • sample reports and completed results;
  • articles, support guides, comparison pages and case studies;
  • emails, calls, forms and customer-support communications; and
  • laboratory, fulfilment and other third-party services arranged through the website.

“DogAllergyTest.ca,” “Company,” “we,” “us” and “our” refer to the operator identified in the Terms and Conditions. “Services” includes the website, products, kits, testing, reports, educational material and administrative support.

Product-specific descriptions, preparation instructions, collection requirements and laboratory documents also apply. This disclaimer does not replace any document supplied with a particular test.

02

Educational and informational purposes

Unless a service is expressly identified in writing as a regulated veterinary diagnostic service, website content and consumer reports are provided for general informational, educational, screening or wellness purposes.

They are not intended to:

  • diagnose, confirm or rule out a disease;
  • replace a physical examination or clinical workup;
  • determine the cause of itching, ear disease, skin lesions or digestive symptoms;
  • prescribe medication, immunotherapy, supplements or food;
  • predict a treatment response with certainty;
  • monitor disease progression; or
  • replace advice from a licensed veterinarian or veterinary dermatologist.
03

No veterinarian-client-patient relationship

Using the website, submitting an inquiry, placing an order, collecting a sample or receiving a report does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship.

DogAllergyTest.ca and its support staff are not acting as your dog’s veterinarian unless a separately identified professional veterinary service expressly states otherwise.

Support can explain ordering, kit use, sample return, report access and other administrative matters. Support cannot examine your dog, diagnose symptoms, prescribe treatment or provide an individualized medical plan.

04

Different testing methods are not interchangeable

Dog allergy testing may involve different sample types, laboratories and purposes. An at-home panel, intolerance test, serum IgE test, intradermal skin test and elimination diet do not measure the same thing and should not be interpreted as if they provide equivalent evidence.

Always review the selected product page, sample requirements and report purpose before ordering. Our how dog allergy testing works guide and features overview explain the main testing paths.

inventory_2 Product scope

Panel and intolerance test limitations

The number of items in a report does not determine whether a finding is clinically important or whether the selected product is appropriate for the dog’s symptoms.

05

Full dog allergy panel limitations

A product in our full panel category reports only the allergens or analytes listed for that panel. A broader panel does not provide a complete assessment of every possible food, environmental exposure, parasite, infection or non-allergic cause of symptoms.

A reported reaction or elevated value may not be clinically important for the individual dog. A normal or negative result does not prove that the dog has no allergy or that an untested trigger is not relevant.

06

Single panel limitations

A product in our single panel category has a narrower scope than a full panel and does not evaluate allergens outside the listed group.

A single panel may be useful when the testing question is focused, but it should not be interpreted as a complete allergy workup. The most suitable method depends on symptoms, history and the intended next step.

07

Dog intolerance test limitations

A product in our dog intolerance testing category may use a method and terminology different from an IgE allergy test or veterinary diagnostic procedure.

“Allergy,” “intolerance,” “sensitivity” and “reactivity” are not interchangeable. An intolerance or sensitivity result does not by itself diagnose an immune-mediated allergy, gastrointestinal disease or the cause of a symptom.

Do not represent an intolerance result as a confirmed clinical allergy without appropriate veterinary evaluation.

08

Allergen lists and report categories

The items included in a panel are limited to those disclosed for the product. Category names may simplify complex biological responses and should not be treated as a complete account of every possible exposure.

Larger allergen counts do not automatically mean greater clinical value. Interpretation depends on method quality, the dog’s history, signs, exposure and the intended use of the result.

Review our allergens tested page and results report overview before ordering.

clinical_notes Clinical context

Food and environmental allergy limitations

Allergy is a clinical diagnosis. Testing must be interpreted within the dog’s history, symptoms, physical examination and the purpose of the selected method.

09

Food allergy testing limitations

A report does not independently prove that a food ingredient causes the dog’s symptoms. Food allergy, food intolerance and other adverse food reactions may produce overlapping signs.

Clinical confirmation of suspected food allergy generally requires a carefully controlled elimination diet followed by an appropriate dietary challenge under veterinary guidance.

Read our food allergy test for dogs guide and elimination diet guide.

10

Environmental allergy testing limitations

Environmental allergy in dogs is assessed through clinical history and exclusion of other causes. Serum or intradermal testing may be used in an appropriate veterinary workup to identify allergens for allergen-specific immunotherapy.

A positive response to an environmental allergen does not by itself prove that the allergen is causing the current symptoms. A negative panel does not rule out environmental allergy or exposure to an untested allergen.

See our environmental allergy testing guide and environmental trigger insights.

11

Blood and serum allergy testing limitations

Blood or serum testing may measure allergen-specific immune reactivity, depending on the selected assay. The result must be interpreted with symptoms, exposure, medical history and the intended clinical use.

A blood result does not independently diagnose atopic dermatitis, food allergy, flea allergy, infection, parasites or another cause of itching.

Review our blood allergy testing guide and serum allergy testing guide.

12

Intradermal skin testing limitations

Intradermal testing is a veterinary procedure performed and interpreted within a clinical workup. It is not equivalent to an at-home kit and may require preparation, medication review, clipping, sedation or other professional procedures.

The test is commonly used to help select allergens for immunotherapy after a veterinarian has assessed the dog. It does not independently diagnose every cause of itching or skin disease.

Read our intradermal testing guide.

13

Elimination diet limitations

An elimination diet must be sufficiently controlled, nutritionally appropriate and followed for the period recommended by the supervising veterinarian. Treats, flavoured medications, chews, shared food and accidental exposure may affect the trial.

Improvement during a diet trial does not by itself identify the exact ingredient. A controlled challenge may be required to confirm a food-related reaction.

Do not use a home-prepared or highly restricted long-term diet without appropriate nutritional and veterinary guidance.

14

Symptoms can have many causes

Itching, paw licking, ear disease, hair loss, redness, odour, digestive upset and recurring skin irritation may have allergic or non-allergic causes.

Possible alternatives include parasites, flea allergy, bacterial or yeast infection, contact irritation, endocrine disease, immune-mediated disease and other conditions. A consumer report cannot determine the cause without an appropriate veterinary workup.

Our solution pages for itchy dogs, chronic ear infections and skin irritation are educational resources, not diagnostic services.

biotech Testing process

Sample and reporting limitations

Correct collection and handling are essential. Even an eligible sample may produce an incomplete, unexpected or clinically uncertain result.

15

Sample collection and handling

Follow the instructions supplied with the selected test. Requirements may differ by sample type, product and laboratory.

Testing may be affected by:

  • insufficient sample quantity or poor sample quality;
  • incorrect preparation or collection;
  • contamination or sample mix-up;
  • incorrect labelling;
  • sample degradation, temperature or storage conditions;
  • shipping delays; or
  • failure to follow laboratory instructions.

See our at-home test kit guide and sample collection guide.

16

Authority, identity and humane collection

You must own the dog or have lawful authority from the owner, guardian, rescue, shelter or other responsible person before collecting and submitting a sample.

Collection must be safe and humane. Do not use force or continue an attempt if it may injure or seriously distress the dog or collector. Seek veterinary help where home collection cannot be completed safely.

Do not submit a sample that is unauthorized, deliberately misidentified, taken from the wrong animal or collected through abuse, theft or unlawful conduct.

17

Medication and preparation requirements

Medication, recent treatment, diet, supplements or other factors may affect a veterinary allergy workup or the suitability of a particular test.

Do not stop prescription medication or alter treatment merely to prepare for a test unless instructed by the treating veterinarian or the product’s authorized clinical instructions.

Contact Support for administrative preparation questions and contact your veterinarian for medication advice.

18

False, incomplete and inconclusive results

No testing method is perfect. A result may be:

  • false-positive or false-negative;
  • incomplete, inconclusive or unavailable;
  • affected by contamination or handling;
  • limited to the included panel;
  • affected by cross-reactivity or assay limitations; or
  • affected by technical, clerical or human error.

The laboratory may request recollection, clarification or a replacement sample. Applicable terms are governed by the product instructions and Refund Policy.

19

Reactivity does not always equal clinical allergy

A laboratory response may represent sensitization, cross-reactivity, background reactivity or a finding that is not clinically relevant to the individual dog.

Conversely, an important exposure may not be included in the panel or may not be detected by the selected method.

Results should be matched with timing, exposure, symptoms, treatment history and veterinary findings before conclusions are drawn.

20

Scientific knowledge and interpretation may change

Veterinary allergy science, assay methods, reference data and clinical guidance continue to develop. A classification or interpretation considered reasonable when a report is issued may later change.

Unless expressly included in the purchased service or required by law, DogAllergyTest.ca is not obligated to continuously reinterpret, update or reissue a previously delivered report.

21

Using and understanding the results report

Read the report as a structured source of information rather than a stand-alone diagnosis. Begin with the test method, panel scope, categories and limitations before focusing on individual items.

Do not assume that every reported item must be removed from the dog’s life or diet. Broad, unsupervised changes can create nutritional, practical and welfare problems.

Use our results report page and dog allergy test results guide, then discuss clinically important findings with a veterinarian.

pets Using the report

Treatment, diet and care decisions

A consumer report may help organize questions, but serious medical and nutritional decisions require individualized veterinary assessment.

22

Confirm important findings with a veterinarian

Do not use a consumer report as the sole basis for diagnosis, medication, surgery, immunotherapy, long-term dietary restriction, rehoming, breeding exclusion or another serious decision.

A veterinarian may recommend:

  • a detailed history and physical examination;
  • skin cytology, scraping or parasite assessment;
  • infection treatment;
  • a controlled diet trial;
  • serum or intradermal testing;
  • other laboratory testing; or
  • referral to a veterinary dermatologist.
23

Medication, supplements and diet changes

Do not start, stop, increase, decrease or replace medication, supplements, therapeutic food or veterinary treatment solely because of website content or a report.

Do not remove numerous foods or use an unbalanced diet without professional guidance. Nutritional risks can be especially important for puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs and dogs with existing medical conditions.

DogAllergyTest.ca does not guarantee that any diet, supplement, environmental change or treatment will be safe or effective for an individual dog.

24

Allergen-specific immunotherapy

Allergen-specific immunotherapy is a veterinary treatment that requires professional assessment, formulation, prescribing, monitoring and follow-up.

Do not attempt to formulate, obtain or administer immunotherapy solely from a consumer report. The treating veterinarian decides whether testing and immunotherapy are appropriate and which allergens should be included.

25

Breed-related allergy information

Breed may be one factor in predisposition, but breed alone does not diagnose allergy, predict severity or determine the correct treatment.

Individual health, family history, environment, parasites, infections, diet, age and other factors also matter.

Our breed-specific allergy risk guide is educational and should not be used to label an individual dog.

26

No guarantee of benefit, accuracy or outcome

DogAllergyTest.ca does not guarantee that:

  • a test will explain itching, ear disease, skin irritation or digestive symptoms;
  • a reported item is the cause of a symptom;
  • a negative result rules out allergy;
  • a veterinarian will agree with a report;
  • a result will lead to diagnosis or effective treatment;
  • removing a reported item will improve the dog’s health;
  • a sample will produce a complete or conclusive result;
  • a report will prevent future flare-ups; or
  • a test will meet every customer expectation.

Review our dog allergy test accuracy guide, is testing worth it guide and pricing page before ordering.

policy Service terms

Turnaround, shipping and availability estimates

Any stated laboratory turnaround generally begins only after the correct laboratory receives a complete order and an eligible sample, unless the product page states otherwise.

Turnaround, delivery and availability statements are estimates unless expressly guaranteed in writing. Postal or courier service, weather, customs, incorrect addresses, sample quality, recollection, laboratory workload, technical issues, holidays and events beyond reasonable control may cause delays.

Review our Shipping and Returns Policy.

28

Sample reports, testimonials and case studies

Sample reports illustrate possible structure and presentation. They may not contain every section, limitation or outcome included in an individual report.

Testimonials, reviews and case studies describe individual experiences or illustrative situations. They are not veterinary evidence and do not guarantee that another dog will receive a similar result or benefit.

Images, diagrams and examples may be simplified and may not show the exact kit, laboratory process or biological mechanism.

29

Comparisons and third-party brands

Content in our comparison section is provided for general consumer information. Third-party products, methods, prices, claims and policies may change after publication.

A comparison does not imply endorsement, partnership or affiliation unless expressly stated. Customers should verify material information with the relevant provider before relying on a comparison or purchasing decision.

Objective effectiveness, accuracy and performance claims must be supported by evidence appropriate to the claim; a disclaimer does not correct a misleading product-page impression.

30

Third-party laboratories and service providers

We may use independent laboratories, couriers, payment processors, hosting providers, software providers and other contractors to provide parts of the Services.

These providers may have their own methods, reference data, limitations, terms, privacy practices, turnaround times, retention procedures and service interruptions.

A reference to accreditation, certification or a quality standard applies only to the laboratory, method, service and scope for which that status is current and expressly stated.

31

Privacy and test information

Orders, customer details, animal information, samples and reports may involve collection, processing, storage and disclosure by DogAllergyTest.ca and relevant service providers.

Review our Privacy Policy for information about how personal information is handled.

Do not send unnecessary human medical information, government identifiers or other sensitive documents through ordinary email or website forms.
